Project overview
Eluby Consulting was commissioned by UNICEF Malawi, in collaboration with the Government of Malawi, to develop audio-visual communication materials aimed at addressing Mpox and Cholera.
The project focused on strengthening public health communication by combating misinformation and ensuring communities have access to clear, accurate, and culturally relevant health information.
Through engaging visual storytelling and simplified messaging, the materials were designed to improve public understanding of prevention measures while also supporting frontline health workers with effective communication tools.
The Challenge
Public health emergencies often lead to the rapid spread of misinformation, which can undermine response efforts. In the case of Mpox and Cholera, communities needed clear guidance on:
- Prevention measures
- Symptoms and early response
- Safe behaviours to reduce transmission
- Where and how to seek help
Traditional communication materials can sometimes be difficult for communities to understand, especially when information is technical or text-heavy.
Eluby’s Approach
Eluby Consulting used a visual storytelling and community-centered communication approach to translate complex health information into formats that are easy to understand, engaging, and accessible.
The project combined animation, illustrated storytelling, and practical health tools to ensure that both communities and health workers could effectively communicate and apply the information.
Deliverables
The project produced the following communication materials:
- 3 Animated Videos designed for public awareness and education
- 2 Illustrated Comic Books presenting prevention and response messages through storytelling
- 2 Job Aids for Community Health Workers to support community-level health education and outreach
Impact
The materials contributed to strengthening risk communication efforts by providing engaging, easy-to-understand resources that support both community awareness and frontline health education.
By combining creative communication with public health messaging, Eluby Consulting helped ensure that critical information about Mpox and Cholera could reach communities in accessible and practical formats.
